Physical Property of Non Metal - Appearance
Lustre : Almost all non- metals have a dull surface. As most of them occur as powders and gases, they cannot be polished like metals. Graphite and iodine do show some luster.
Color: Some non- metals are colourless while some are coloured. For example, chlorine is a greenish- yellow gas, bromine is a brown liquid, iodine is a violet solid, and oxygen and nitrogen are colorless gases.
Non-Metals are Not Lustrous. They are Dull. This means that non-metals are not shiny, shiny, they are dull in appearance.
For example, sulphur and phosphorus are solid non-metals which do not have lustre (or shine). They are dull in appearance. There is, however, one exception. Iodine is non-metal having lustre (or chamak). Iodine has a shining surface like that of metals.
